The Blood of Jesus

We have been discussing the event of the cross and what occurred behind it in the spiritual realm. Then we explored the Son of Man in the center of the earth – the lower region of the dead. There, Jesus demonstrated absolute victory over sin and death. Three days later He rose from the dead. This was the historical magnificent event that procured our complete justification before God as well as our hope after this temporal life.

Following the resurrection and before Jesus’ final ascension, there remained one additional task that he needed to accomplish. Namely, the presentation of His own blood upon the Mercy Seat in Heaven before the Father.

The Bible says that “… without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins” (Heb. 9:22). No mere human could ever pay for man’s sin. It is weak and unable to be a sufficient sacrifice. What Satan overlooked was the blood of Christ. Jesus’ body was unique. It was sinless. Unstained by sin. Being born of a virgin and conceived by the Holy Spirit, Jesus’ blood was God’s blood. The blood line flows through the male. Since Jesus did not have a paternal human father, His blood was pure. Oh the wonderous Glory of God!

Acts 20:28 “…the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood”. The blood of Christ was able to be the perfect payment for sin when none other could.

The law required that the blood of the sin sacrifice – bulls and goats – be sprinkled on the altar (Lev. 9:12). This made the payment for sins on a temporary basis until THE permanent sacrifice could be made (Heb. 10:4). The blood of Jesus Christ was a “better” sacrifice. It had strength. Hebrews 12:24 says, “And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel”.

The Risen Christ Jesus entered into the Holy Place in Heaven to sprinkle the blood on the mercy seat after He rose from the dead. Hebrews 9:12 tells us, “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”

The blood of Christ speaks to us. What does it speak?

1. The blood of Christ speaks of peace with God.
Colossians 1:20 “And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven”.

2. The blood of Christ speaks of justification.
Romans 5:9 “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him”.

3. The blood of Christ speaks of redemption and the forgiveness of sins.
Ephesians 1:7 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace”.

4. The blood of Christ brings us near to God.
Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ”.

One of my favorite hymns says it extremely well…

Would you be free
From your burden of sin
There’s power in the blood
Power in the blood
Would you o’er evil a victory win
There’s wonderful power in the blood.

We have peace, justification, redemption, forgiveness, and are near to God because of the precious blood of the Lamb.

Grace and peace unto you. Amen!
